About dindanancy

A pile of reconstructed memories serving as a history book for my days ahead. I am a waif, and I am wanderlust; venturing people's thoughts and the mysteries of the universe, and tend to observe more than I should. Therefore I am the wanderlust waif armed with a notebook and pen. A quiet conversationalist. I can be hippie, I can be mod. It depends on my mood ...and apparently my laundry. I long for you to inspire me to inspire you.

You had me thinking about what love is

What happens when science and love collides? A captivating and mind-opening documentary entitled “The Love Competition” by Brent Hoff with The Stanford Center for Cognitive and Neurobiological Imaging.

I found the video from a tweet by @brainpicker (my daily platter of knowledge intake) and immediately intrigued by the idea of scanning one’s brain and measuring your “love”—and it’s a competition!

You keep me coming back for more and I can’t complain

I have to say it was quite refreshing to be away from the internet. I hadn’t renewed my BlackBerry Internet Services for about 3 weeks now and managed to stay away from basically the internet for a week full. It really put aside the clutter and chaos of the world wide web, suppressed my addiction to simultaneously digesting numerous information, and I even had the time to get crafty and read books. It was an exhilarating, and the only thing I wish I did was get out of town. Continue reading

When IKEA finally arrives to town

Behold Jakartans, you shall no longer travel far and away to spend a whole day–and money–on the world’s most famous home product store!

I’ve always had this thing for furniture and other home appliances, and every time I go to a mall and pass through a floor of neatly arranged pseudo home I stop and stare and sometimes squeal in excitement imagining if I were to purchase every single item they sell and place it inside my lovely future home. What gets me even more worked up is when I’m at the kitchen utilities section–I cannot believe the human beings who came up with adorably attractive pastel-colored spatulas! I am indeed a sucker for rainbow-colored kitchen utilities and mugs and plates and teapots and well, you get the picture. Continue reading

How we celebrate birthdays and how I loathe the way it is

After spending 14 years in Jakarta and gone through numerous birthdays, I’ve noticed a habit that I pretty much would like to change. I don’t know how it is in other parts of the world, but here in Indonesia (or at least in Jakarta), whomever is about to have a birthday he/she has the unwritten obligation to treat his/her countless friends with a feast–and that ain’t cheap if you’re a very popular kid Continue reading

Four AM giggle

It’s 4 in the morning and I’m browsing the web for anything interesting to read. I forgot exactly what I had typed on the Google search box that led me to “Which Classic Female Literary Character Are You?”, none the less, I clicked the link. The questions and choices of answers sure was entertaining, especially the result. Not bad for a dawn entertainment. Here are the screenshots: Continue reading

trinkets of the past and growing up with technology

I remember the days when I scan through the TV schedule in a newspaper to see what time MTV Alternative Nation would air and MTV Asia’s request show. Those days I’d gawk in front of the television set listening and watching videos of Massive Attack, Blur, Radiohead, Bjork and the obvious pop teen idols back then such as Spice Girls (I’m proud to say I knew every step of the dance!), New Kids On The Block, Backstreet Boys, Boyzone, Boyz II Men, Michael Jackson even Kavana and Peter Andre! I’d write down the chart show result every single week in my big blue book and stand in front of the mirror pretending I was an MTV VJ. I’d even send artworks to MTV Asia in hopes that either VJs like Donita Rose, Nadya Hutagalung, Jamie Aditya, Mike Kassem, KC Montero, Sonia, Greg Utt, Sarah Sechan, Denise Keller, Colby Miller or Sarah Meier would read it on air. My mum said she saw one of my letters read but I still have a hard time believing because firstly, I didn’t see it and secondly, I wasn’t the only Dinda sending requests to MTV.
